Made in Sweden
Sotoqvist deliver goods that are made in Sweden. Simple as that. We want to preserve the knowledge and wisdom that might soon be forgotten in Sweden
A lot of products today are inspired by Sweden, designed in Sweden, or made up in Sweden. Sotoqvist is all that, however we are proud to say that our products are also Made in Sweden
During the 1800 century Sweden had a blooming textile industry. Some larger cities in Sweden, such as Borås and Gothenburg was heavily dependent on this industry during the beginning of the 1900 century. Due to the industrialism and other countries decreasing labour cost, the Swedish textile industry almost vanished over a night in some parts of the country. In 2002 the last major textile industry in Sweden went bankrupt and before them, many other had joined the same destiny. Today, there are a few nished factories who are trying to add other values such as professional knowledge and quality before pricing.
Our factory is one of those. For over 40 years they have manage to serve and operate within the textile industry. In the beginning of the 90s they sewed over 100 000 pile jackets a year. The industry was blooming until their customers moved the production overseas.
Today, Sotoqvist are using the same two seamstresses that worked during those glory days. So you can rest a sure that they know how to sew a pile jacket. We are not sewing 100 000 a year, yet. However, we are managing to keep a bit of the textile industry alive in Sweden. And we are truly proud of that.
Hand made pile jackets from Sweden
Their names were Sven and Anna-Lisa Lindqvist and they were everything grandparents could be. During the 90s they taught me all about the Swedish nature when living in their summer cabin north of Stockholm. Where in the reed the largest pikes lured, which slopes the forest chantarelles could be found and cleaving birches with grandpas hand made hatch.
During the summer evenings I often fell asleep in their arms listening to them gnabba (Swedish slang for argue lovingly) to each other. They always wore their fleece jackets those cold evenings.
In 2016 me and my fiancee Linda found those old fleece jackets in the summer cabin and all memories flew over me. We decided to bring these fleece jackets back to life and started a long journey in finding a modern design and a sustainable factory.
After months of searching we got the number to a person in south of Sweden who goes under the name Mr Pile due to his golden years in the 80s where he made fleece jackets for almost every person in Sweden. He wondered why we wanted to make this fleece jacket out of pile material, nobody has asked for them for over 20 years. I told the story about my grand parents and sent him a picture of their fleece jacket. Mr Pile, said that it probably was his factory who made the fleece jackets my grand parents wore.
Now, me and Linda work with this factory and it feels like the result in our products has made the chain of this story complete. And most important, Me and Linda will some day be grand parents and teach our grand children everything we know about the Swedish nature. All, while wearing our own fleece jackets. But until then, we hope that a person or two will feel the same passion as we have for this old classic as the fleece jacket are.
